MROP team studies molecular mechanisms of regulatory processes in photosynthesis, cellular changes induced by abiotic stresses and mechanisms developed by photosynthetic organisms to survive and overcome these stresses. We investigate these processes principally in cyanobacteria and higher plants and our studies go from the isolated protein to the entire cell/organism.

Light is essential for photosynthetic organisms which convert solar energy into chemical energy necessary for the synthesis of organic carbon molecules and for O2 evolution.
The team "Cyanobacteria Photoprotection" directed by Diana Kirilovsky studies the photosynthetic apparatus of cyanobacteria to understand the role of light as a regulator and as a factor of stress.
The team"Oxidative stress and ROS signaling" directed by Anja Krieger-Liszkay studies on one side, the regulation of photosynthetic electron transport, the sites and molecular mechanisms of reactive oxygen species (ROS) (1O2, O2-●, H2O2, OH●) generation in plants and, on the other side, the important role of ROS in certain developmental processes like germination and extension growth.
The research project "Cellular redox state" (Pierre Sétif) is focused on the study of cyanobacteria. Cyanobacterial physiology and growth depend on the cellular redox state which also plays a key regulator role.
