Metamaterial head coil for Ultra High Field MRI

M-ONE

M-ONE will focus on making, from the patented metamaterial technologies developed in M-CUBE, better radio frequency antennas for 7 Tesla MRI. The industrialization of an antenna developed during the M-CUBE project for the 7T of NeuroSpin is also planned thanks to the partnership with the company Multiwave Imaging.

Presentation

The European Commission renews its confidence in the company Multiwave, the Fresnel Institute (Aix-Marseille University), NeuroSpin (CEA/Joliot) and the Catholic University of Leuven to revolutionize ultra-high field brain imaging by validating the M-ONE project, the logical continuation of M-CUBE, which aims to revolutionize ultra-high field brain imaging by designing a new generation of radio frequency antennas for 7 Tesla MRI.

M-ONE is the logical continuation of the European H2020 project M-CUBE FET-OPEN n°736937, conducted with great success by Aix-Marseille University since 2017 (www.mcube-project.eu) and which has identified two technologies using metamaterials in order to propose homogeneous imaging of the human brain, and this without artifact. The ambition of the M-One project is now to transform the technologies developed within the first M-CUBE consortium into concrete medical devices, which will become the world reference for ultra-high field MRI. More precisely, the M-ONE project will focus for the next two years on making better radio frequency antennas for 7 Tesla MRI, based on the ideas that emerged from M-CUBE. The industrialization of an antenna based on the metamaterial technologies developed during the M-CUBE project for the 7T of NeuroSpin is also planned thanks to the partnership with the company Multiwave Imaging.

This innovation will place a European SME, Multiwave Technologies, at the pole position of the global MRI Market.

ABOUT FET-OPEN

FET Open, part of the EIC Pathfinder, supports the early stages of scientific and technological research and innovation around new ideas for radically new future technologies. It also funds coordination and support actions to ensure that this high-risk prospective research flourishes in Europe, as well as FET Innovation Launch actions to turn the results of FET-funded projects into real societal or economic innovations.

The European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot project supports researchers and innovators who develop high-risk breakthrough innovations with the potential to create new markets and stimulate jobs, growth and prosperity in Europe.
