Universities and doctoral schools

Approximately 40 french and foreign students start a doctoral thesis in our laboratories every year. These doctoral students enrols mostly in Paris-Sud University/ Paris-Saclay University but also in other universities in Paris (Paris-Descartes University, Pierre-et-Marie-Curie University, Paris-Diderot University, Sorbonne Nouvelle University and Paris-Est University) and elsewhere in France (Bordeaux University, Caen-Normandie University, Montpellier University).

In agreement with the Institute's multidisciplinarity, doctoral students are distributed in about twenty doctoral schools, but four of them, all attached to the Paris-Sud University / Paris-Saclay University, bring together nearly 70% of the doctoral students we receive :

  • ED 577 / SDSV (Structure and Dynamics of Living Systems),
  • ED 575 / EOBE (Electrical, Optical, Bio - physics and Engineering),
  • ED 571 / 2MIB (Chemical Sciences : Molecules, Materials, Instrumentation and Biosystems),
  • ED 569 / ITFA (Therapeutic Innovation : fundamental and applied),
  • ED 158 / 3C (Brain, Cognition, Behaviour).

Doctoral students funding

Doctoral students of the Institute can be financed in different ways: on 1st July 2017, 27% of them have a doctorate contract with the university and 16% of them have a CEA research training contract. Finally, the dynamism of the Teams in seeking their own funding is reflected by the fact that 57% of the doctors of the institute receive funding from laboratories (CEA or others).
